Beaches - Anemi
Ikaria has beautiful awe-inspiring and captivating beaches. Apart from the sandy beaches, there are many beaches with pebble, and numerous isolated ones where you can not get by car. To the south, at the side of Agios Kirikos there are accessible beaches in Prioni, Lefkada, Xilosirti, Faros, Drakanos, Kerame and Therma. To the north, between Perdiki and Monokampi, in the village Kionio (Negia) you will find three quiet beaches: Kioni, Avgolymi and Livada. In the region of Evdilos you have several options: Fitema, Fles, Kerame, Kyparissi, Kampos- Oinoi and Karavostamo, and finally in the region of Raches you can choose between Gialiskari, Mesachti, Livadi, Armenistis small port and Nas.
Below you will find some information on the most popular beaches.
Armenistis beach. Within a picturesque bay, it is sandy with a few pebbles and the water is calm. After your swim, you should definitely visit the village and traditional taverns. The beach has only some free umbrellas.
Mesahti. In Gialiskari, is the popular beach Mesahti. On the shore there are ponds formed by the two rivers that flow there. The shallow waters are ideal for families with children, while the topography of the beach is ideal for wind surfing. It is organized with sun beds, umbrellas and a beach bar, and you will also find taverns, cafes and several accommodation options in close proximity.
Livadi. Next to Armenistis with dense vegetation, running water, golden sands and crystal clear waters. Livadi Beach offers everything. It is located near Armenistis and it is fully organized. There is also an organized camping area in the region. The beach is ideal for water sports, because here you can find the necessary equipment for all your favorite sports. Kambos. The sandy beach is located in the namesake village. It is located in an area with lush vegetation, which despite being quite isolated it is organized, with sun beds, umbrellas and beach bars.
Nas. It is among the most popular beaches of the island. It is located in a magnificent location near Armenistis, where the river Chalaris joins the sea. The sandy and pebble beach is surrounded by lush vegetation, waterfalls and springs, while the edge of the beach you can find the ruins of the temple of Artemis. To reach the beach you have to walk down some stairs, but surely you will be rewarded for your trouble. This beach is prefereed by nudists.
Kerame. A small beach on the north side of the island, a short distance from Eudilos. It has pebbles and sand and it is ideal for a quiet day at the beach. The sea bed here is offered for snorkeling because of the many rocks. And if you want something less quiet, in close proximity you can find cosmopolitan beaches.
Kiparissi. If you are looking for a quiet beach, Kiparissi (meaning cypress) is the ideal choice. It is located a few kilometres away from Evdilos and access is very easy. There are no sun loungers and umbrellas, since Kiparissi is far away from the cosmopolitan areas of the island.
Therma. You will find the beach of Therma, known for its thermal baths, in Agios Kyrikos, in a sheltered cove. The hot spring water that fills the ponds on the beach comes from the source Loumakia.
Aris Potamos (Aris river). Exiting Karavostamos, you will see the sign for Aris Potamos and you will descend to the beach featuring pebbles with very nice shapes. In the middle of the road you may visit a traditional water mill. On the beach you will find Kyriaki’s canteen, serving mezedes (Greek tapas) and drinks while playing lounge music.
Seychelles. The beach owes its name to the clear azure waters, the emerald shore and white pebbles. The beach was created by landslides during the opening of the Manganitis tunnel. It is located 25 km from Agios Kirikos, hidden in a cove, and to reach it you will have to cross a relatively rough path from the main road. Alternatively,
Lefkada. Lefkada is a spa town and the warm waters of the hot springs in the areaflow in the beautiful pebbled shore. It is located on the southeastern coast of Ikaria and you will arrive there via a dirt road. It is ideal for a quiet swim.
Faros. The sandy beach of Faros is located 11 kilometres from Agios Kirikos on the way to Therma. You can see it by the jetty where the local fishing boats moor. It is the longest beach of Agios Kirikos and it attracts many people due to its interesting waterworld, which makes it the ideal place for diving. It is organized, with cafes, bars, umbrellas, beach volley facilities, and infrastructure for various water sports. You can get here by boat from Agios Kirikos, and enjoy the view to Fournoi, Thymaina and Samos.
